When film company Columbia Pictures took up making "Quantum of Solace" ? the 22nd of James Bond's adventures, a secret agent of Her Majesty, they did not expect that they might have problems shooting on locatio But what was it actually about?A significant part of the film about Bond goes on in Panama. This Southern American country for years has been considered as an exceptionally politically unstable region, where control is kept only thanks to the American army which is stationed there. The American army protects the government and the Panama Canal, but the truth is that suburbs of the city are not controlled by the police. The only control in the favelas is wielded by the ubiquitous and powerful mafia.Since the script of "Quantum of Solace" sets the action in a shanty town, Columbia Pictures made a deal with the Panamanian Police to protect the filming crew. However, soon it turned out that they were not governmental forces, but local mafia that constitute law in the suburbs.The filming set was placed in an area governed by one of the gangs, which considered that its territory had been violated and started stealing all kinds of filming equipment. After two days of shooting the film it turned out that almost the whole provisions, half of the computers, camera and some cars had been stole As the police were not able to protect the film crew, someone came up with the idea of making a deal with the boss of the gang and pay him for protectio Soon the deal was struck, but it did not solve all the problems, as there was other gang claiming a right to this area too, and feeling underestimated decided to to show who was really the boss.The next day during filming of one of the scenes the actors, including Daniel Craig starring as James Bond, realised they were in the middle of a real shoot-out with real villains and ammunitio Luckily the members of the discorded gangs were aiming at each other so none of the film crew were hurt. Since that day, however, terrified film stars were moving about accompanied by doubled guards and were counting the days until shooting in Panama was over.The divided gangs did not get any money and are still fighting over rule in this favela. Let us just hope that the 22nd part of James Bond's adventure will eventually be shot and in November 2008 we can go to the cinema to watch the most popular secret agent back in action.
